Hello,

Welcome to Personal Finance. Even though I have been a Spanish teacher for 14 years and I love it and know the value of it, since I started teaching Personal Finance I have learned that it is THE MOST VALUABLE CLASS that a student can take!

We will be walking you through 50 years of life. You will go to school, get a job, deal with debt, get married and have kids. You have only limited control of your virtual life. I decide who you marry, when you marry, how many kids you will have and when they are born. (You do get to name them, but I will continue to give you information about them as they grow.)

It's just like..... LIFE! You never know what wrenches will tork your plans and what emergencies might dissolve your savings. The span of your life will help you to see the long-term effects of your choices. Anyone can learn to make a budget, but can you truly visualize 50 years of savings? Anyone can write a check, but do you understand how your personality might impact your ability to sit down and take care of the monthly bills?

I will individualize your life to your choices in terms of profession and education level. I will also give you parameters for budgets. Some of the budget numbers I give you might seem a bit much, but all of them have been researched and are accurate to date. Also, I will make you pay for somethings that you might never actually use (especially after taking this class), but I also will not be making you note every time you go to McDonald's or the 7-11.

The main thing to remember is that while this is a virtual game of sorts, it is not truly over until you have actually put things into place in your real life.
